Lillian Wickiser Miller
Lillian’s paintings explore the landscapes around her home and how her memories are inseparable from the natural elements she sees around her. Recently, she has been working primarily in acrylic on 8×10 panels, allowing her to move quickly between scenes and respond flexibly to the changing weather and seasons. Lillian believes these panels function like lyric poems, which are first-person impressions that capture mood rather than narratives. Her panels serve as records of encounters with familiar environments and spaces around her childhood home in Anderson, South Carolina. The rest of her work and her panels revolve around revisiting the same places repeatedly to create a visual language rooted in presence, memory, and place.
